In true millennial fashion, Carleigh and Bayley met in a Facebook group. In Fall 2014, while gearing up for their first years at Carleton University, they friended each other hoping to make friends. After quietly liking each other's posts and mutually following each other on Twitter and Instagram, Bayley worked up the courage to… correct Carleigh’s grammar. Surprisingly, it paid off because the two got to chatting and in November 2014, they met in person for their first date.
They grabbed coffees at the campus Starbucks. While racing to catch the LRT, Carleigh accidentally spilled her drink all over Bayley’s coat. Carleigh profusely apologized and told Bayley that it would be completely understandable to never speak again. Bayley laughed and they headed off to watch Big Hero 6.
After nine years, two degrees each, moving in together, and five years living together, Bayley decided to pop the big question while they were in Vancouver visiting Carleigh’s uncle and grandma.
On a small private beach in Whytecliff park, Bayley asked Carleigh to turn around and look at the ocean “so he could take her picture.”
Carleigh heard the sound of crunching rocks and sand as Bayley got on one knee. Simultaneously, she spotted a large rock jutting out from the ocean. “Is that a whale?”
Another very different question followed and the two celebrated their engagement with fish and chips.
Now, ten years together, they're so excited to celebrate their relationship with their closest friends and family.
